A FOREST CLEARING EARLY MORNING Cedric (the deer) stands by the grave of his deceased wife.
He lost her 5 years ago and often passes this part of the forest to pay his respects. To indulge in the tranquillity of mourning and to simply, enjoy the delicate sounds of the wilderness.
He thinks of her, her smell and her doe eyes, her sense of humour. He thinks of Gary Larson and of Robert De Niro.
He then pictures the hunter’s face and what he would do if their paths ever crossed again.
He bows his head.
His left paw stomps on the forest floor. A gentle rain falls, making “pattering” sounds on the fallen autumn leaves. A twig snaps and Cedric turns his head. The rain stops. The suns “cathedral“ beams shine on the dancing dust particles. They stand out white against the forest’s dark trees.
Cedric is gone.
